As you can imagine being who we are and making what we do we get zillions of requests for tombola, raffle and gala prizes. Although we don’t always politely decline we do prefer to try and focus our efforts on a couple of amazing groups with which we are immensely proud to be associated.
The first of these is Akany Avoko, akany-avoko.blogspot.com being based in Madagascar where we source a lot of our cocoa it seemed right that we try and do something that benefits the local community.
Akany Avoko is a Madagascan charity which rescues destitute kids and gives
them a life.
We’ve been with them for many years and have built classrooms at their orphanage. This year paying for the salary of a craft teacher to give the children life skills. We’ve sponsored a number of fund raising events over the years including their Christmas Calendar for 2017.
We also support the local hospice in Harlow where our production kitchens are located. St Claire’s Hospice, stclarehospice.org.uk/ are another remarkable institution doing outreach work in the Essex and East Hertfordshire area as well as having their own centre.
We are sponsoring their Father Christmas fun run this year and there is the slim possibility that I will be taking part! Although not so much of the slim, I’m certainly working up to the right shape for the costume!!
We give stock to their centre for consumption by patients and visitors. We are about to close arrangements to supply our beautiful bars free of charge to their eight shops which they will be able to sell and turn into cash.
